About
Luca Pappalardo
I am a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Information Science and Technologies (ISTI) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and an Associate Professor at Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, Italy.
My research lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence, complex systems, and computational social science, with a particular focus on understanding the coevolution between AI and humans.
Research
His work studies complex socio-technical systems using data-driven methods, machine learning, and network science. A major line of research concerns human mobility, analyzing how people move through cities and regions and how these patterns shape urban systems.
More broadly, his research explores how data and algorithms can be used to better understand and model collective behavior, social dynamics, and urban processes.
Applications
These studies have applications in several domains, including:
- urban planning and mobility systems
- smart cities and transportation networks
- the societal impact of artificial intelligence
- large-scale analysis of human behavior
